2011 Emmy Fashion Wrap-Up

In case you missed the 63rd annual Emmy Awards that premiered last Sunday, here are my fashion “bests” (and not so "bests") of the night.

Hands Down Best Dress
Lea Michele
Marchesa

I...WANT...THIS...DRESS! I love the color, I love the fabric, and I love the unexpected deep-v back. Most of all, I love the Pippa Middleton circa Royal Wedding vibe it gives off.  In my eyes, Marchesa can do no wrong.

Best Dress From Outer Space
Amy Poehler
Peter Som

It was metallic, it was blue, it had sleeves, and it could easily pass for a space ship. This dress would have been perfect for an award show in a galaxy far far away, but here, it just looked strange.

Best Cut
Julie Bowen
Oscar de la Renta

It takes a brave fashionista to bare such a deep-v neck, but this dress fits Julie like a glove. It has just enough sex appeal without being too "Jersey Shore," and just enough sparkle without being too “Vegas Show Girl.”

Best Home Furnishing Replica
Heather Morris
Ina Soltani

Martha Stewart called, she wants her curtains back.

Best LBD
Evan Rachel Wood
Salvatore Ferragamo

Elegant design, sparkles and a train? Count me in! In any other color, this dress would not be the same. And while some may think that black is boring, on Rachel it’s a showstopper!

Best Arts & Crafts
Julianna Margulies
Armani Prive

It looks like she took a shower curtain, draped it around her body and glued on plastic beads from Michael's Craft Store. Why Julianna, why??

Best Under the Radar
Julia Stiles
Georges Hobeika Couture

Did anyone even know that Julia Stiles attended the Emmy’s this year? It’s too bad that Julia didn’t get more press, because this dress looked amazing on her! I love the light lavender color and delicate lace pattern of the fabric. The gentle mermaid cut at the bottom of the dress was just enough to make it red-carpet worthy.

Best Belly Dancer
Gwen Paltrow
Pucci

Apparently Gwen is auditioning for Bollywood movies now. And apparently Pucci makes clothes in black and white?? Who knew!?

Best Color
Cobie Smulders
Alberta Ferretti

Rich turquoise color + Dark Brown Locks + Milky Skin Tone = AMAZING.  Plus the delicate draping detail at the shoulder doesn’t hurt either.

Best Prom Dress

Sarah Hyland
Christian Siriano

I love Project Runway and I love Christian Siriano, but I hate this dress. The fabric looks cheap, the cut is unoriginal, and the belt looks like something she picked up at Gap Kids.

Best Vintage Inspired
Jayma Mays
Zuhair Murad

The light pink champagne color can be difficult to pull-off, but I adore the vintage-inspired feel of this dress and the lace bodice on top. The cap-sleeves are an unexpected, yet charming detail and the flowing tiered skirt gives this gown a great 1940s vibe.

Accessories for My Favorite Accessory

Alright, I admit it, I am addicted to Apple Products. The saying is true: “Once you go Mac, you never go back.” And ever since I got my iPad last December, this trusty device has gone everywhere with me.

And since my ipad seems to be permanently glued to my body, what can possibly be better for my favorite accessory, than jazzing it up with MORE accessories?!

Lucky for me, there seems to be hundreds of options out there (in all types of price ranges) for keeping my Apple products fully protected and super styling.

Here are my top 3 favorites....

Sugar Daddy Wish List
Diane Von Furstenberg
Harper Day Bag
$695
www.dvf.com

Yes, this item is horribly expensive, but look how versatile! Its a messenger bag... no wait... it's a iPad case... no wait... it's a clutch! So many possibilities! This is perfect for traveling or work, but it might set you back a few months in rent. Perfect option for someone who (1) has a secret sugar daddy who loves giving you gifts OR (2) don't mind going hungry for a while.

Splurge
Tory Burch
Robinson E-Tablet Case
$225
 www.toryburch.com

In my eyes, Tory Burch can do no wrong and the simple, elegant, zip-around design of this leather iPad case makes its easy to throw in your purse or backpack. I love the pop of the cherry-red color, but it also comes in a luxurious black (for those of us less daring). This option is a little more friendly on the wallet than the DVF option above, but at $225, I would consider this "special splurge."

Steal
M-Edge
Go! Jacket for iPad
$19
www.medgestore.com
No-frills design, yet holds up well under pressure, this M-Edge iPad case is durable and chic and all for under $20! (Hurry though because it's currently on sale and may not last for long!) While I personally love this eggplant color for the Fall Season, it also comes in a variety of shades including green, black and red.

Amy's Personal Pick
M-Edge Go! Jacket for iPad

Taking my own advice, I snapped up an M-Edge iPad case for myself in a limited edition metallic silver color... and for only $19!

I D-I-E for Rachel Zoe

On August 24, I had the honor and privilege of attending an uber-exclusive Rachel Zoe fashion show at Neiman Marcus at the Topanga Mall hosted by Ken Downing, Fashion Director for Neiman Marcus. For those of you unfamiliar, Rachel Zoe is "THE" premier stylist to the stars! After dressing the likes of Anne Hathaway, Cameron Diaz, and Demi Moore (just to name a few), and having a successful reality show on the Bravo Network, Rachel Zoe is now stylist/reality star-turned fashion designer with her very own line, aptly named "Rachel Zoe."

With her debut Fall 2011 Collection, you can tell that Rachel Zoe was inspired by luxury, class and a chic 70s flair. Leaving no stone unturned --her line includes fabulous suits, maxi dresses, coats, tie-blouses, even handbags and shoes--Rachel Zoe has left me drooling. From the luxe gold buttons on her military inspired coat, to the versatility of her camel colored poncho, you can tell that Rachel Zoe truly designed each and every item.

While some may call her colors, "boring," I loved the monochromatic pallet and idea that I could pair her browns, blacks and whites with almost anything I already have in my closet. My favorite piece of the entire collection is her white sequined "Linda Cardigan" that can be dressed up with chic black slacks for a professional look, or dressed down with a maxi dress for the weekends.

Bottom Line: Rachel Zoe's new clothing line is B-A-N-A-N-A-S and I cannot wait to see what she unveils for Spring 2012! You can purchase her line at major retail stores like Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue or online at shopbop.com

And We're Off & Running!

Greetings and welcome to my blog! As my very first post, I would like to take a second just to introduce myself and my undying love for FASHION.

As a twenty-somthing who was born and raised in Los Angeles, fashion and style have always been great passions of mine. From high end fashion houses to recession-friendly discount stores, I am forever intrigued by the creativity of the fashion world and it's ever changing pace. And while law school may keep me busy from time to time (or all the time), my passion for fashion still remains!

Ultimately, I hope this blog will serve as an inspiration and spring-board for my fellow fashionistas who, just like me, are constantly on the hunt for that perfect outfit. From fashion news, styling tips, and cool finds, nothing about FASHION is off-limits here.

So buckle up, enjoy the ride and SHOP SHOP SHOP!
