Golden Globes vs. SAG Awards 2012

The stars were out in full force on January 15 for the annual Golden Globe Awards in Beverly Hills. Of all the award shows, the Golden Globes are my personal favorite since it includes the major celebrities from movies and television alike. (Which gives me TWICE as many beautiful dresses to enjoy!)

Another show that is eerily similar to the Globes are the SAG Awards, which followed closely behind on January 30. Like the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards included stars from various forms of media, which means one important thing.... REPEAT OFFENDERS. Since most celebrities that attend the Globes also attend the SAG Awards, this gave many ladies an opportunity to wow us a second time around, or "redeem" themselves from their previous fashion blunders.

Overall, I give the 2012 red carpet (thus far) a "thumbs up" as most of the ladies were truly stunning in their gorgeous gowns and beautiful bling.  Clearly, "nude is the new black" this year as many celebrities chose gowns in shades of cream/beige/nude/champagne for both the Globes and SAGs.

Certain ladies, such as Angelina Jolie, Julie Bowen and Emma Stone, hit the right note twice, and landed on my "Best Dressed" list. Other celebrities, like Tina Fey and Natalie Portman, were able to redeem themselves at the SAGs from their previous (poor) choices.  Unfortunately though, some ladies, like Lea Michele, were repeat "Worst Dressed" nominees, which begs the question, "are they getting dressed in the dark!?"

"Best Dressed" Golden Globes & SAG Awards

Angelina Jolie
Globes: Atelier Versace (left)
SAG: Jenny Packham (right)
--White satin...who else besides Angelina can pull off white satin at the Globes?! Then she wowed us again in a deep black, luxe-looking Jenny Packham gown for the SAGs. (I cannot wait to see what she's going to wear at the Oscars!)--

Julie Bowen
Globes: Reem Acra (left)
SAG: Temperley London (right)
--In my eyes, Julie Bowen can do no wrong. Her vintage inspired Reem Acra dress looked angelic at the Globes. And her daring turn in a deep eggplant Temperley gown was a great choice for the SAGs--

Emma Stone
Globes: Lanvin (left)
SAG: Alexander McQueen (right)
--The fiery color of her raspberry and plum Lanvin gown looked amazing with her red hair. And Emma's interesting belt added a nice touch to her overall look. For the SAGs, she once again made a great choice with a black, tea length dress by Alexander McQueen that showed off her amazing shoes (also by Alexander McQueen). Hey Emma, want to share those shoes with me?!--

"Most Improved" from the Globes- SAGs
Tina Fey
Globes: Oscar de la Renta (left)
SAG: Vintage Versace (right)
--"Bushy" is NOT a good adjective to describe a red carpet dress. Tina must have realized this fatal error as she chose a sleek and stunning black Versace just two weeks later--

Natalie Portman
Globes: Lanvin (left)
SAG: Giambattista Valli (right)
--Hot pink? Can you say 80s Prom Dress? Thank goodness Natalie learned her lesson and toned it down for the SAGs--

SAG Awards 2012: Best and worst dressed

Michelle Williams
Globes: Jason Wu (left)
SAG: Valentino (right)
--I love Jason Wu, but this dress was just a little too "fashion forward" for the Globes. Luckily, Michelle turned things around in a stunning red and lace Valentino at the SAGs that made her look like a A-list celebrity--

"Backward Slide" from the Globes-SAGs

Amber Riley
Globes: Badgley Mischka (left)
SAG: Badgley Mischka (right)
--Same designer, but two completely different looks. I love the deep color she wore at the Globes and the fit of the dress looks lovely on her. But what happened at the SAGs? What is with that huge bow? And the tea length of the dress just doesn't work for her unfortunately--

"Worst Dressed"Golden Globe & SAG Awards

Lea Michele
Globes: Marchesa
SAG: Versace
--Way too overexposed. Too much "skin" at the Globes and now too much "leg" at the SAGs. Seriously girl, stop trying so hard! Keep in mind: less is more--

"Nude is the New Black"

Kate Beckinsale
Globes: Roberto Cavalli

Diane Lane
Globes: Reem Acra

Sarah Hyland
Globes: Vintage Versace (left)
SAG: Temperley London (right)

Berenice Bejo
SAG: Ralph Lauren
