The much anticipated designer line was announced back in October and fashionistas have been dying to see what kind of creations the up-and-coming designer will include in his affordable collection. But now, with only weeks to go until the line hits stores, Target has unveiled some of the items that will go on sale.
While Wu is mostly known for his red carpet formal wear and exquisite gowns (a la Michelle Obama and Reese Witherspoon), his line for Target takes a much more casual, yet polished approach. The 53 items are moderately priced from $19.99 up to $59.99 and include dresses, blouses, skirts and accessories such as scarves and purses.
For the most part, the line appears very chic and classy and has a retro 60s vibe with the use of stripes, bright colors, and prints. There appears to be a common theme of red, white, and blue color-blocking with sweet dresses and sweaters. Wu also incorporates a cheeky muse in his collection in the form of a black kitty cat, known as Milu, who appears in the official Target commercial and various pieces of the collection including a printed scarf.
My only criticism of the collection is that, based on the design and cut of the clothing, it appears to be targeted at the 20-something female. While the dresses are polished and chic, the hemlines are very short, and the peter-pan collars on some of the blouses may be too outdated for someone over the age of 30.
Overall though, I love this newest designer collection for Target and think it provides great options for classy fashionistas who may want to dabble in vintage-inspired clothing, yet maintain a modern and youthful vibe.
Keep in mind, the Jason Wu Collection for Target will be on sale only until March 6 (but I'm sure that most of the items will be sold out in stores and online much earlier than that).
